Hardships are not necessarily traumatic. It's possible to experience many difficulties in life and not be traumatised by them.

The topic of trauma has become so popular that it's starting to take over common sense.

Let's normalise having emotions, but let's not normalise calling every emotion and hardship traumatic.

Trauma is a complex topic and it is not to be taken lightly. But I keep seeing an over correction around this subject to the point that it’s now taking over people’s lives and introducing harmful ways of thinking about themselves.

Even if you have had serious trauma, please know that you are NOT your trauma. You are a human being, created in the image of God, with immense value. The experience of trauma can be processed and it doesn’t take away your dignity as a human being.

For those who are confused with the information about trauma being disseminated and commercialised on social media. Know that you can’t lose anything by working on regulating your nervous system. Chronic stress is detrimental to mental, emotional and physical health. Simply working on regulation will help change your outlook on life. You don’t necessarily have to have been through trauma to do this work.

Be aware of falling into the trap of pathologizing human experience.

And let’s not forget about the beautiful human qualities we can also focus on: Kindness, compassion, patience, gentleness, gratitude, softness...

Be soft and gentle with yourself.

Slow down, smell the flowers. Look around and show your body-mind that you are safe right here, right now. And that’s enough for today… 💛
